I'm watching the Chicagoland truck race, occasionally flipping over to a meaningless preseason football game, pondering the latest news on this weekend's races in terms of how well my picks are going to perform.
Qualifying is over for IndyCar and the Rolex Grand-Am series and while my No. 01 Ganassi entry didn't run the fastest lap at Montreal at least it will start second behind the No. 99 Gainsco car. The No. 10 Dallara/Ford will start third next to the No. 61 Riley/Ford and I'll bet one of Dave Despain's MIA Bobbleheads that one of those cars wings up in victory lane.
Ryan Briscoe is on pole for tomorrow night's IndyCar race at Chicagoland with both of his Penske team mates and Dario filling the first two rows with Marco starting fifth. Graham Rahal starts sixth, Milka qualified one position ahead of Simona at the back of the pack and I picked Scott Dixon, who qualified 15th. Bummer for qualifying points.
Fernando Alonso led both practices at Spa with Yo!Adrian Sutil fastest in the last session ahead of Louis Hamilton, Robert Kubica and Felipe Massa. Vettel was fifth fastest, Schumacher 12th and Mark Weber was 18th. Doesn't matter. I'll be surprised if the Red Bulls don't qualifying in the first two rows.
The #6 CytoSport Porsche Spyder topped Friday practice for the ALMS race in Mosport with the heavily favored #1 Highcroft Racing Honda P2 fifth fastest behind the #16 Mazda and the #37 and #8 P1 cars. And for some reason the entry list posted on the ALMS site lists #100 as the #01 car number. We're ignoring that.
I'm looking forward to the Nationwide race. Robby Gordon is entered. This will be fun.
Half the Super 7 Sweep players picked Marcos Ambrose and almost a quarter picked Carl Edwards. Brad K. was the third most popular pick over Jacques Villeneuve, Ron Fellows and Kyle Busch, who'll probably have a hard time scoring points since Brad Coleman is listed in the 18 car this weekend.
Edwards has become quite the road racer so I'm counting on close running and plenty of spins and yellows (Steve Wallace is entered) and a real battle between half a dozen or so cars. Naturally I felt the need to start a real darkhorse so come on, Andrew Ranger ... in a Baker/Curb Dodge of all things.
Too late for second thoughts but I thought he was going to be driving one of their Fords.
