Jimmie Johson led all Cup driver picks for Dover ahead of Kyle, Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin and Jeff Gordon with Carl Edwards next, the top Ford choice. Kurt Busch was ninth in the pick standings just ahead of Dale Jr. and the Dale Jr. blind faith fan appreciation club.

I think a Ford is going to break through this weekend and I like Biffle more than Carl. But since qualifying was before the Super 7 Sweep deadline and how bad a pick can the 48 driver, starting from pole, be anyway.

You have to feel for Richard Childress and Clint Bowyer after they got dinged 150 points plus cash plus a six-race crew chief suspension for a rules infraction discovered three days after the checkers flew at Louden. NASCAR had told RCR they were taking the car after the race regardless of where it finishes (Bowyer won when Tony Stewart ran out of fuel) and the car passed both pre- and post-race inspection.

I'd say something seems fishy but what's new. Ask Carl Long. You can only shake your head and hope they've removed all the sharp objects from the No. 33 hauler.

   Starter   % picked  Pick count
  Jimmie Johnson 25.1 1494
  Kyle Busch 16.4 979
  Tony Stewart 14.7 876
  Denny Hamlin 13 776
  Jeff Gordon 8.3 495
  Carl Edwards 5.4 322
  Kevin Harvick 4.5 267
  Greg Biffle 2.5 148
  Kurt Busch 1.5 87
  Dale Earnhardt, Jr. 1.4 84
  Matt Kenseth 1.2 69
  Clint Bowyer 1.1 67
  Jeff Burton 1 57
  Juan Pablo Montoya 0.7 42
  Mark Martin 0.7 42

Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski are the odds-on favorites for the Dover Nationwide race with Carl, Happy Harvick, Joey Logano and Ryan Newman getting a few picks. Same with Danica. Dale Jr. got some picks, as did Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Jamie McMurray, Ron Hornaday, Kasey Kahne, Boris Said and others who won't be running at Dover.

I expect a significant number of have-at-it-boys battles for real estate on Saturday.  I also expect one or more drivers on probabation will be tapped, spun, pushed, moved or outright crashed because retaliation could be expensive.

  Kyle Busch 35.4 1909
  Brad Keselowski 33.9 1828
  Carl Edwards 19.1 1028
  Kevin Harvick 5.8 310
  Joey Logano 1.9 102
  Ryan Newman 0.4 24
  Dale Earnhardt, Jr. 0.3 15
  Elliott Sadler 0.3 16
  Clint Bowyer 0.3 16
  Justin Allgaier 0.3 17
  Denny Hamlin 0.2 12
  Danica Patrick 0.2 13

Speaking of MIA, Kyle Busch was the fifth most popular pick for the truck race in Vegas but Brian Ickler will be driving the No. 18 on Saturday. Todd Bodine is being started by 46% of all teams with Ron Hornaday the next big favorite over Austin Dillon, Aric Almirola, Kyle and Johnny Sauter. Schrader got some picks because he's driving the No. 2 instead of Dover -bound Kevin Harvick, who got a few picks anyway.

  Todd Bodine 46.8 2024
  Ron Hornaday 26.7 1155
  Austin Dillon 7.8 338
  Aric Almirola 5.6 242
  Kyle Busch 5.3 231
  Johnny Sauter 2.4 103
  Ken Schrader 0.8 33
  James Buescher 0.8 36
  Timothy Peters 0.7 29
  Matt Crafton 0.6 27
  Kevin Harvick 0.4 19
  Mike Skinner 0.4 18
  Brian Ickler 0.3 13
  Ricky Carmichael 0.2 10
  Brad Keselowski 0.1 5
  Denny Hamlin 0.1 5

Mark Weber was the fastest in the first F1 practice session at Singapore and Sebastien Vettel topped the charts in the second go with qualifying early Saturday, hours after the dreaded FMFL deadline. Lewis Hamilton is the player favorite though, over Vettel and Weber, with Jensen Button getting triple-digit picks. Felipe Massa, Michael Schumacher and Robert Kubica are on some rosters too. I guess desperate times require desperate measures.

They made a track change since last year and drivers are none too happy about it.  It's been raining in the afternoon but the race is at night and tracks don't dry too fast at night with high humidity.

And I wonder:  Which of my F1 starters will be next to go out after contact before a single lap has been run?

  Lewis Hamilton 35.3 1842
  Sebastian Vettel 25.4 1325
  Mark Webber 17.3 900
  Fernando Alonso 16.4 854
  Jenson Button 3 158
  Felipe Massa 1.2 63
  Michael Schumacher 0.8 40
  Robert Kubica 0.3 17
