Funny thing about this game. When I pick starters before any qualifying sessions and just go with who I think will win I almost always do better than when I change my picks between qualifying and the cutoff.
I'm such a qualifying points ho.
Hence my conundrum. I've got seven Cup driver names already registered and I just know,
I just know that if I go back and switch someone out because they got lucky with a beer bottle I'll wind up worse off than if I leave everything alone.
So that's what I'm going to do.
Maybe.
We'll see.
Most of the picks are in and Bow Tie boys are at the top of the list. Harvick and Stewart are the most popular ahead of Jimmie Johnson and sentimental favorite Dale Jr. with Kyle the most favored Toyota driver and Carl the top Ford pilot. Smarty pants players will also have Kurt Busch in their lineup if only for the Dodge mfr points.
With 24 drivers in the field, points for the top 16 and seven picks we should all hope to score pretty well this weekend.
But wait. This is Daytona, on a new surface, with a restrictor plate that's no more than an rch larger than last year's but perhaps just bigger enough to make a difference when it comes to passing. Or blocking. Then tackling.
We can pretty much bank on a big one tomorrow night and yes Virginia; it's entirely possible to score the big zero if all your starters get caught up in a huge crash early.
So let's be optimistic and look forward to a good, clean, safe, 'big one' -free all out sprint that will set up next weekend's Great American Race 500 as an all time classic.
And hopefully not because it sets some sort of dubious Daytona 500 record for bad big ones.
