Sebastian Vettel crashed in practice but still won the pole, led the most laps and notched his third win in four starts this season at the Turkish Grand Prix. Teammate Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso made the podium ahead of Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Jenson Button and Nick Heidfeld. Feipe Massa and Michael Schumacher were 11th and 12th.
Kyle Busch got his first Nationwide win at Darlington Friday night over Denny Hamlin, Elliott Sadler, Justin Allgaier and Steve Wallace. Clint Bowyer drove a KHI Chevy to sixth, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was 10th, Chris Buescher was 17th in the No. 16 Ford that Trevor Bayne usually drivers, Carl Edwards was 20th, Brad Keselowski was 27th -- one spot ahead of Aric Almirola.
On Saturday Regan Smith earned his first career NASCAR Sprint Cup victory the same way he won his first a couple of years ago at Talladega: tough, clean, fair and square. But this time they didn't take the win away for some lame subjective rules infraction. Good for Smith and Denver's Furniture Row Racing.
Carl Edwards, Brad Keselowski, Kasey Kahne and Ryan Newman were top five ahead of Hamlin, Tony Stewart, the Biff, Jamie McMurray and Martin Truex Jr. Kyle was 11th, Dale Jr. 14th in front of Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick was 17th and out the FMFL points.
No wonder he tried to assault Kyle on pit road after the race. Their late race battle cost both any chance at the win or even a top five result but the thought of being responsible for the loss of Super 7 Sweep points for their fans is too horrid to entertain.
Grand-Am is promoting a big cash bounty on the boredom-risking No. 01 Ganassi BMW/Riley (six wins in a row dating back to last season) but there are still only 11 DPs on the entry list for this weekend's race at VIR. The Rolex Series needs another 10 Daytona Protoypes. Or a bunch of LMP1 and LMP2 cars.
Anybody hear anything about ALMS? They still around?
Cool news about Buddy Rice and Scott Speed racing at Indy and Speed also racing at the Vegas finale for the $5 mil bonus. More cool: Alex Zanardi is supposedly interested.
This week it's all three NASCAR series at Dover and the Rolex series at Virginia International Raceway. Lineups are due by this Thursday at Midnight and don't forget to hunt down those 'official' entry lists.
