I've written about Joel Young's Ford Model T flathead four -powered Bonneville racer before but something always felt missing, or not quite right in my perception of the sport, at least from a personal standpoint.  That's because I'd never been to the famous salt flats in Utah ....

A little over two years ago semi-retired machinist and self taught engineer Joel Young of Phoenix, Arizona came up with one crazy idea.  He decided to build a Bonneville race car, powered by a full-race, turbocharged Ford flathead that started life in a Model T.  After achieving his goal, and setting a new class record in 2009 he was seduced by the lure of membership in the 200 mph club.  Mission accomplished.
